The Hyde Park community in Tampa, Florida is one of the oldest and most well preserved communities in the Tampa Bay area. Tree lined neighborhoods with on-street parking and continuous sidewalks provide opportunities for neighbors to safely walk throughout the community under the canopy of beautiful Live Oak trees. To preserve the appeal of this great neighborhood, local residents commissioned David Conner + Associates to review the conditions of an existing storm pond located along Swann Avenue, the main east-west roadway linking the community with the City of Tampa, and develop strategies for improving the pond as an attractive amenity. David Conner + Associates’ completed design will improve pedestrian safety by providing fully connected wide sidewalks, two new street shelters to offer opportunities for rest and conversation, as well as improve the aesthetic quality of the pond by replacing existing chain link fencing with new decorative iron fencing. The feature of the project is a massive 50 ft. tall fountain that will provide a beautiful gateway feature and iconic element for this impressive community.
