DC+A decided to concentrate our design costs into the swimming pool and spa area and minimize costs along the waterfront. We developed a clean, simple, and organized layout that separated the swimming pool from the waterfront lawn area with terrace walls. The walls were designed with adjacent planting that allowed us to minimize the need for costly and unsightly railings while at the same time providing for an increased sense of privacy and security. Stairs’ widths between levels were held to a minimum to increase the building plant massing and to limit the ability to see into the private areas of the home.
To frame the pool area and screen the imposing neighboring home, a continuous wall of twenty foot tall Bambusa textilis ‘gracilis’ was planted. The bamboo hovers over the pool fulfilling our homeowner’s desire to create a place that felt as though it could be anywhere.
