The Emerging Pathogens Research Facility is a part of a new medical research and laboratory campus within the University of Florida Medical Center. The 10 acre campus is planned to eventually include up to six densely populated and highly secure medical research towers. David Conner + Associates was commissioned by the University of Florida to develop a landscape master plan to enhance the pedestrian accessibility and appearance of the campus for the near future. The project, conceived and constructed by the University, provides for new curvilinear sidewalks traversing the site and providing shaded access for pedestrians and bicyclists traversing the future development sites. Designed to be quickly established and easily removable as once future buildings are constructed, the design emphasized the use of native Cabbage Palms to shade the walks with an understory of native grasses and ornamentals. The final project provides a safe and enjoyable walk experience for research technicians and faculty who access the building from adjacent parking structures.
